IRCC invited 2,250 candidates under the new Express Entry draw
On August 17, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 2,250 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under Express Entry. In this round of invitations, no program has been specified. In round #229, the cut-off score was 525 points, 8 points fewer compared to the previous draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was December 28, 2021, at 13:43:47 UTC. As of August 15, 2022, there are 238,947 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 23 more compared to the previous update. In 2022, Canada issued 18,288 ITAs through Express Entry.

Quebec introduced new amendments to the Collective Sponsorship applications
On August 17, 2022, the Ministere de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Integration (MIFI) introduced a number of regulatory amendments that have been made to the Program for Refugees Abroad (Collective Sponsorship) in order to strengthen its integrity, preserve its humanitarian objective, and better protect the sponsored refugees. Therefore, the changes will enhance the sponsorship’s ability to welcome refugees and manage them better. The amendments published in the Gazette officielle on July 6, 2022, came into force on August 17, 2022.

Top ten cities in Canada with better employment opportunities
Every province in Canada is experiencing labour shortages, creating the perfect environment for foreign nationals to get a job and a permanent residency under provincial economic immigration programs. Canada’s labour market remains tight, according to BMO senior economist Robert Kavcic in his latest Regional Labour Market Report Card: Coast-to-Coast Tightness. According to the report, in the second quarter of 2022, the top ten Canadian cities for labour market performance were St. Catharines, Saskatoon, Guelph, Halifax, Oshawa, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, Kelowna, and St. John’s.

Canada’s business groups want the Government to make the hiring process of foreign workers easier
Due to the backlog of immigration applications at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), employers are not able to hire skilled workers quickly enough in Canada. In its Survey Report: Impact of Processing Delays of Work Permits and Business Visas on Canadian Employers, the Canadian Employee Relocation Council (CERC) calls on the Federal Government to fasten the application processing times for business applications. According to the CERC, Canada’s outdated processing system needs to be modernized through the hiring of more staff, training, and the implementation of new technology platforms.
