SINP invited candidates from eight countries
On August 16, 2023, Saskatchewan conducted new rounds of invitations in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) and invited candidates residing in Ireland, India, Poland, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Ukraine. The province invited 23 candidates from Ireland under the Express Entry category and 12 candidates under the Occupations In-Demand category. Furthermore, Saskatchewan issued 224 and 207 invitations to Indian candidates through the Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand categories, respectively. Lastly, to support a recruitment mission to Poland, the province invited candidates residing in Poland, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, and Ukraine – 98 under the Express Entry and 78 through the Occupations In-Demand categories. In total, Saskatchewan invited 642 candidates on August 16. In 2023, Saskatchewan invited 5,375 skilled immigrants and entrepreneurs under the SINP.

400 Afghan refugees arrived in Canada over the past week
On August 15, 2023, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows Canada has accepted 400 Afghan refugees since August 8, 2023. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 36,530 Afghan refugees. Canada received 19,550 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. 11,365 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, and 18,935 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 2,285 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.

BC released the new BCPNP Statistical Report and Year in Review 2022
On August 15, 2023, the Government of British Columbia released the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) Statistical Report and Year in Review for 2022. The BCPNP has been producing an annual statistical report since 2017. The report has been expanded to include information about the program’s activities in 2022 and an overview of the BCPNP’s efforts to improve performance and combat fraud. The BCPNP selects a limited number of prospective immigrants for permanent residence in Canada. After receiving a provincial nomination from British Columbia, candidates must apply for permanent residence for themselves and their dependants through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Quebec invited new candidates in the new Arrima draw
On August 16, 2023, the Quebec Ministry of Immigration (MIFI) published the results of the 50th invitation round in Quebec’s online system Arrima. On August 10, 2023, MIFI invited 1,384 candidates to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Candidates invited in this round had a minimum score of 591, at least level 7 oral proficiency in French, and a valid job offer outside the territory of the Montreal Metropolitan Community. This year, MIFI invited 11,308 candidates through the regular Arrima draws. Since the launch of Arrima in July 2019, the Government of Quebec invited 24,625 foreign nationals in 50 draws to apply for immigration to Quebec.
