BC invited 175 skilled candidates under the BCPNP

On April 4, 2023, the Government of British Columbia issued new invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and invited qualified Skills Immigration candidates. In the general draw, the province invited 152 candidates. The minimum score for candidates invited in this draw was 85-106 points. The province issued 17 ITAs to candidates under the childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202). In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited six candidates who scored 60 points. In total, the province issued 175 ITAs in this draw. This year, British Columbia has already invited 3,196 candidates.

Canada welcomed nearly 140,000 Ukrainians under the CUAET

On April 5, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between January 1, 2022, and March 26, 2023, 26,094 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and 171,572 Ukrainians reached by air. Between March 17, 2022, and March 25, 2023, IRCC received 972,860 applications under the CUAET. In total, IRCC has approved 626,814 applications from Ukrainian nationals. From March 17, 2022, to March 25, 2023, 139,056 Ukrainian nationals arrived in Canada under CUAET.

Canada accepted over 400 Afghan refugees

On April 4, 2023, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows Canada has accepted 410 Afghan refugees since March 28, 2023. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 29,735 Afghan refugees. Canada received 17,995 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. Most of them – 9,875 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, while 15,875 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 1,285 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.

IRCC approved 50 entrepreneur applications through SUV in January 2023

According to recent data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), 50 immigrant entrepreneurs were granted permanent residence in Canada through the Start-Up Visa (SUV) program in January 2023. This is close to the number in January 2022, which was 55. In January, Ontario welcomed 20 immigrant entrepreneurs, British Columbia accepted 15, Alberta ten, and Manitoba received five entrepreneurs through the SUV program. Under the SUV program, candidates can first obtain a work permit supported by their designated Canadian investor before their permanent residence application is processed. The application for permanent residence through the SUV program is estimated to take 33 months.
