The number of applications received under the CUAET exceeded 160,000
On April 22, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between January 1 and April 17, 2022, 4,753 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and an additional 14,875 arrived by air. Between March 17 and April 19, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received 163,747 applications under the CUAET. The applications of 56,633 Ukrainian nationals have been approved so far.

Quebec issued 33 invitations in the sixth Arrima draw of 2022
On March 22, 2022, the Quebec Ministry of Immigration (MIFI) published the results of the 32nd invitation round in Quebec’s online system Arrima. On April 7, 2022, MIFI invited 33 candidates to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Candidates invited in this round had a valid job offer outside the territory of the Montreal Metropolitan Community. In 2022, MIFI issued 2,202 invitations. Since the launch of Arrima in July 2019, the government of Quebec invited 8,474 foreign nationals in 32 draws to apply for immigration to Quebec.

Manitoba introduced new instructions for MPNP
On April 22, 2022, the Government of Manitoba published a new Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) notice regarding COVID-19. Applicants who were laid-off due to COVID-19 and then have resumed working in the province can count months of work before and after the layoff towards the eligibility for the MPNP. Those, who are on a temporary work permit in the province and lost their job permanently due to the pandemic can count the time they have worked for their previous and the new company towards the eligibility for the MPNP. Applicants who have been laid off or their hours have been reduced, or have been laid off and re-hired have to obtain detailed documentation from their employers and include them in their application.

The unemployment-to-vacancy ratio has steadily decreased since the beginning of the pandemic
According to a Statistics Canada report, the unemployment-to-vacancy ratio has decreased to 1.3 in the fourth trimester of 2021. In the same period, in 2020, the ratio was 2.9. Nationally, 49.1% (449,200) of job vacancies in all industries were vacant for 60 days or more, which is an indication of the tighter Canadian labour market, as fewer unemployed workers are available to fill vacancies. In contrast to the unemployment rate, the number of job vacancies was up in all 20 sectors in Canada when compared to two years earlier.
