Saskatchewan issued 269 ITAs in the new round of SINP
On April 22, 2021, Saskatchewan conducted a new round of invitations in the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). This time, SINP issued 269 invitations to apply (ITAs) for the provincial nomination. In the Express Entry category, Saskatchewan issued 130 ITAs. Another 139 invitations were issued to the Occupations In-Demand category candidates. The lowest score in both categories was 70 points. All invited candidates had Educational Credential Assessments. In this draw, Saskatchewan invited candidates in 61 different NOCs. In total, Saskatchewan invited 2,941 candidates in 2021, 1,511 under the Express Entry, and 1,430 under the Occupations In-Demand category

Canadian Government introduced an update regarding Permanent Residence applications in the Refugee Classes
On April 22, 2021, the Government of Canada updated the instructions for REF-CDA applications. New foreign police certificate requirements will assist processing officers in making eligibility and admissibility decisions for refugee applications. All applicants 18 years of age and over will be required to introduce police certificates, clearances, or records of non-conviction of countries, where the applicant resided for 6 months or more before coming to Canada, or the country where the applicant has spent most of their adult life since the age of 18. Updates are not applicable for countries of persecution. Applicants also will have to provide biometrics, unless they’ve given their biometrics within the last 10 years.

Quebec receives applications in 2 sectors starting from April 22
Quebec will receive applications of workers in the artificial intelligence, and information technologies and visual effects sectors in the Permanent Immigration Pilot Program (PIPP). The program aims both to attract foreign workers who have significant work experience in one of the targeted sectors and preserve Quebec graduates in artificial intelligence. This year, the application reception period for PIPP is from April 22 to October 31. The five-year program considers the selection of up to 550 candidates each year as well as their family members. Quebec intends to equally distribute the number between each stream: 275 workers or Quebec graduates in the artificial intelligence sector, and 275 workers in the information technologies and visual effects sector.

Language requirements for the temporary pathway to permanent residence
International students and essential workers who are going to apply for the temporary pathway to permanent residence will have to provide proof of their adequate knowledge of the language. In order to be eligible, international students who graduated from Canadian institutions must have a language proficiency of at least CLB level 5, while for essential workers, this criterion is CLB level 4. If applicants already have a language test result from a designated organization approved by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRRC), they can use it, as soon as the test result is less than 2 years old when the application is received. IRCC will accept language test results received by applicants through email or from the testing organization’s online portal. To recall, IRCC accepts test results from IELTS General and CELPIP English tests and TEF and TCF French tests.

Canada cancelled flights from India and Pakistan for 30 days
In response to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in India and concerns about new strains of coronavirus, the federal government decided to cancelled flights from India and Pakistan for 30 days. The Department of Transport stated that due to the fact that an increasing number of Indian and Pakistani travellers entered Canada with COVID-19, all commercial and private passenger flights from these countries are cancelled as of 11:30 PM April 22, 2021 and will remain in full effect until May 21. Passengers, who will come from India or Pakistan to Canada via a third country, must be able to demonstrate a negative COVID-19 test result from their point of departure before they can travel to Canada. In turn, this policy may affect many international students and foreign workers from the above two countries.
