IRCC will grant PR to over 90,000 temporary residents in six new programs
On April 14, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), launched six new temporary immigration programs targeting essential workers and international graduates residing in Canada. The government allocated 20,000 spots for health care workers (40 different NOCs), 30,000 spots for all other essential workers (95 NOCs), and 40,000 spots for international graduates. The eligibility requirement in all those streams resembles the main criteria of the Canadian Experience Class. Healthcare and essential occupations applicants must possess one year of Canadian work experience and meet the language requirements, while international students must have graduated from the college or university within the last 4 years, but no earlier than January 2017. IRCC will accept applications via the new online portal until November 5, 2021, or until it reaches the cap of 90,000 applications under these 3 streams. Candidates will be able to apply beginning May 6, 2021. In addition, IRCC launched 3 additional streams with unlimited caps for French-speaking international graduates and Francophone essential workers. This policy will definitely allow Canada to meet the immigration target of admitting 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021.

Canada invited 266 provincial nominees in the Express Entry draw #182
On April 14, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a new Express Entry invitation round. In draw #182, IRCC invited candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program. IRCC issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to 266 provincial candidates, and the lowest score in this draw was 753 points, 25 points fewer than in the previous PNP-specific draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round March 01, 2021 at 15:22:18 UTC. As of April 12, 2021, there were 166,538 profiles in the system, 1,062 more compared to the previous update. In total, Canada invited 49,390 candidates to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry in 2021.

British Columbia invited 441 skilled workers
On April 13, 2021, British Columbia held invitation rounds in the Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry British Columbia (EEBC) categories of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). In the general draw, BCPNP issued 420 invitations. The lowest scores slightly changed in all categories:
- Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker 95 (-1 point)
- Skills Immigration – International Graduate 95 (+1 point)
- Skills Immigration – Entry Level and Semi-Skilled 79 (-2 points)
- Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker 95 (-1 point)
- Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate 95 (+1 point)
- The second round of the day targeted only candidates in NOC 0621 – Retail and Wholesale Trade Managers and
- NOC 0631 – Restaurant and Food Service Managers. BCPNP invited 21 such candidates. Both NOCs have a
- high number of registrants within the BC PNP Skills Immigration Registration System. The lowest score of
- those candidates did not change and was 113 points. In total, British Columbia issued 3,441 ITAs under the
- BCPNP in 2021.

Ontario will return and refund incomplete OINP applications
On April 13, 2021, the government of Ontario released a new update regarding the completeness check procedure under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The OINP will return and refund incomplete applications received both in Express Entry-aligned streams (French-Speaking Skilled Worker, Skilled Trades, and Human Capital Priorities) and the new Expression of Interest streams (Ph.D. and Master Graduates and three Employer Job Offer streams). Applicants whose application will be returned will have to receive a new invitation from Ontario to apply for OINP. According to provincial authorities, this step will increase the quality of applications and improve processing times for all streams.

BCPNP invited 20 candidates in the business immigration streams
On April 13, 2021, British Columbia held new draws to business candidates in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). In the Base Category of the Entrepreneur Stream, BC PNP invited 6 candidates with the lowest score of 126 points, four points more than in the February 2 draw. In the Entrepreneur Regional Pilot, the province invited 5 candidates with the lowest score of 116 points, seven points higher than in the previous draw. In 2021, British Columbia already invited 19 entrepreneurs. Last year, BC issued 154 invitations to the business candidates.
