Job points removal in Canada’s Express Entry: A shift in immigration strategy

The recent elimination of job offer points from Canada’s Express Entry system has sparked discussions about the value of seeking employment in the country. While this change removes the direct immigration advantage of having a job offer, employment in Canada remains crucial for successful integration and long-term prosperity. A job provides essential Canadian work experience, helps build professional networks, and offers pathways through Provincial Nominee Programs. Additionally, employment remains vital for meeting eligibility requirements in various immigration streams and establishing financial stability.

Survey reveals a complex pattern of prejudice among Canadian immigrants and minorities

A 2025 Leger poll for the Association for Canadian Studies has challenged traditional assumptions about prejudice in Canada. The survey reveals that immigrants and visible minorities exhibit negative views toward other groups at rates similar to or higher than the general population. The findings, released before the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, show that prejudice exists across all demographic groups, with Arab Canadians facing the highest levels of negative sentiment at 26%. Association CEO Jack Jedwab emphasizes that these results demand a more nuanced approach to addressing discrimination in Canadian society.

Canada’s Start-Up Visa program faces major changes amid record applications

Canada’s Start-Up Visa (SUV) program is undergoing significant transformations as it reaches its peak performance, with 5,595 applicants and dependents admitted in 2024. However, the program faces new challenges as the federal government announces dramatic reductions in business immigration quotas. Starting in 2025, admissions will be limited to 2,000 permanent residents, further decreasing to 1,000 in both 2026 and 2027. This strategic shift comes as the program grapples with a substantial backlog of 38,000 applications, prompting discussions about its long-term sustainability and effectiveness in attracting innovative entrepreneurs to Canada.
