Ontario invited 95 French-speaking candidates in the new OINP draw

On July 25, 2023, the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) held the fifth round of invitations in Ontario’s Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream. In this round, the OINP issued 95 Invitations to Apply for the Francophone candidates. The Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) range of candidates who received the Notification of Interest from the OINP was between 321 and 374 points. The Express Entry profiles of the candidates were created between July 25, 2022, and July 25, 2023. In 2023, Ontario invited 1,127 FSSW candidates.

Over 170,000 Ukrainian nationals arrived in Canada under the CUAET program

On July 25, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between March 17, 2022, and July 15, 2023, IRCC received 1,182,051 applications under the CUAET. In total, IRCC has approved 815,282 applications from Ukrainian nationals. July 15, 2023, was the last day to apply for a visitor visa under the CUAET measures outside Canada. From March 17, 2022, to July 15, 2023, 170,169 Ukrainians arrived in Canada under the CUAET program.

IRCC increases the number of resettlement openings for human rights defenders

On July 25, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced expanding the global human rights defenders stream, increasing the number of resettlement spaces for human rights defenders and their families from 250 to 500. This initiative reflects Canada’s dedication to providing a safe haven for those who risk their lives for fundamental freedoms and its proud tradition of responding to the needs of vulnerable people. Canada clearly states its commitment to supporting and protecting human rights defenders facing persecution by expanding the global refugee stream. As part of this commitment, Canadian civil society organizations will work together in the coming months to develop a temporary protection pathway for human rights defenders in need.

Canada welcomed 520 more Afghan refugees

On July 25, 2023, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows that Canada has accepted 520 Afghan refugees since July 18, 2023. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 35,235 Afghan refugees. Canada received 19,310 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. 11,150 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, and 18,245 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 2,170 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.

The Government of Canada will replace documents for individuals affected by flooding in Nova Scotia

The Canadian government is helping communities and individuals affected by severe flooding in Nova Scotia. On July 25, 2023, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), announced that Canadians, permanent residents, and temporary residents impacted by the floods could receive free replacement documents. These documents include permanent resident cards, proof of citizenship, Canadian citizenship certificates, Canadian passports, and other travel documents that have been lost, damaged, or destroyed. Additionally, international students, temporary foreign workers, and other visitors whose status expires by November 30, 2023, can apply to restore or extend their status in Canada without charge. These special measures will be in effect until November 30, 2023.
