BC invited over 160 skilled candidates under the BCPNP
On June 6, 2023, British Columbia issued new invitations in the Skilled Worker – International Graduate categories of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). In the Tech-targeted draw, BC issued 112 invitations with a minimum score of 90 points. In the Childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 42202), the province invited 24 candidates who scored 60 points. In the Healthcare-targeted draw, the province issued 21 invitations. Additionally, fewer than five invitations have been issued for other priority occupations (NOCs 31103, 32104). The province invited up to 162 candidates with a score of 60-90 points. Including this draw, in 2023, British Columbia has already issued 4,755 invitations.

Nearly 160,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Canada since March 2022
On June 6, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between January 1, 2022, and June 4, 2023, 32,008 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and 198,657 Ukrainians reached by air. Between March 17, 2022, and May 30, 2023, IRCC received 1,046,263 applications under the CUAET. In total, IRCC has approved 747,647 applications from Ukrainian nationals. From March 17, 2022, to May 30, 2023, 157,885 Ukrainian arrived in Canada under the CUAET program.

More Afghan refugees arrive in Canada
On June 6, 2023, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows Canada has accepted 360 Afghan refugees since May 30, 2023. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 32,745 Afghan refugees. Canada received 18,695 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. 10,435 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, and 17,040 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 1,850 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.

Quebec to hire internationally-trained early childhood educators
On June 6, 2023, the Government of Canada added 13 countries to its eTA program. Travellers from these countries who have either held a Canadian visa in the last ten years or a valid United States non-immigrant visa can now apply for an eTA instead of a visa when travelling to Canada by air. The countries eligible for the program are Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Costa Rica, Morocco, Panama, Philippines, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Seychelles, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay. This move will increase travel, tourism, and international business while keeping Canadians safe. Existing visa holders can still use their visas to travel to Canada.
