The Government of Canada announced the Budget 2023
With the commitment of bringing 500,000 new permanent residents to Canada by 2025 in mind, Budget 2023 has allocated $1.6 billion over six years and an additional $315 million ongoing. Moreover, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will benefit from an extra budget of $50 million to reduce immigration backlogs. To create a “stronger immigration system,” the Government of Canada has defined four key objectives: Francophone immigration, citizenship and visitor visa applicants, and asylum seekers. Canada is anticipating welcoming unprecedented numbers of immigrants over the following three years. Labour shortages are an integral factor in encouraging large-scale immigration into the country.

Canada got off to a strong start in January 2023 with a continued surge of immigration
Canadian immigration experienced a remarkable 43.4% jump from the previous year, establishing a record for the number of new permanent residents who arrived in January – signalling the strong start of 2023. Canada welcomed an impressive 50,885 permanent residents in January 2023 – a substantial increase from 35,450 newcomers for the same period one year prior. This figure also more than doubled December’s number of 23,440 and was nearly double that of 46.1%. The high influx of newcomers can be attributed to Canada’s open immigration policies, which prioritize reuniting families and bringing in highly skilled workers.
