Prince Edward Island invited 144 candidates in March
On March 16, 2023, Prince Edward Island conducted a new invitation round in the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). In the fourth round of this year, the province issued 138 invitations to apply to skilled workers in the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams. PEI also invited six candidates to the Business Work Permit Entrepreneurs stream. The lowest score for business candidates was 52 points, 18 points fewer than in the February draw. This year, PEI invited 641 candidates. According to the schedule, the next PEI PNP draw will occur on March 30, 2023.

IRCC issued new invitations under the IEC
Over the last week, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From March 11 to March 17, Canada invited 1,555 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of March 17, there were 16,944 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were 151 ITAs for Australia, 1 ITA for Austria, 27 ITAs for Belgium, 25 ITAs for Chile, 3 ITAs for Costa Rica, 4 ITAs for Croatia, 25 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 12 ITAs for Denmark, 5 ITAs for Estonia, 263 ITAs for France, 129 ITAs for Germany, 11 ITAs for Greece, 6 ITAs for Hong Kong, 128 ITAs for Ireland, 48 ITAs for Italy, 110 ITAs for Japan, 169 ITAs for Korea, 8 ITAs for Latvia, 18 ITAs for Lithuania, 1 ITA for Luxembourg, 31 ITAs for the Netherlands, 50 ITAs for New Zealand, 18 ITAs for Poland, 20 ITAs for Portugal, 10 ITAs for Slovakia, 2 ITAs for Slovenia, 32 ITAs for Spain, 26 ITAs for Sweden, 13 ITAs for Switzerland, 9 ITAs for Taiwan, and 200 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In 2023, Canada issued 63,267 ITAs under the IEC Program.

Ottawa to prioritize temporary and permanent residence applications from Turkey and Syria
On March 18, 2023, the Government of Canada announced new immigration measures to support Turkish and Syrian temporary residents in Canada and abroad. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will process temporary and permanent residence and refugee resettlement applications from people affected by the devastating earthquakes. In addition, as of March 29, 2023, Turkish and Syrian nationals already in Canada could extend their stay free of charge. As of February 8, 2023, there were approximately 16,000 applications from Turkey and Syria, including 1,700 from the area impacted by the earthquakes.

Canada allowed foreign nationals with expiring PGWPs to work in Canada for longer
On March 17, 2023, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), announced that international graduates with expired or expiring post-graduation work permits (PGWP) could apply for an additional work permit for up to 18 months. Starting April 6, 2023, PGWP holders who want to stay in Canada longer and those whose PGWPs have already expired in 2023 will be eligible for a new permit. Foreign nationals who have exceeded the 90-day restoration period will also be able to restore their status and receive interim work authorization.
