ESDC published new processing times for LMIA applications
On March 13, 2023, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) updated the processing times for the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications under various streams. Based on statistics from all processing centres, the current average LMIA processing times reduced for the Global Talent, Agricultural, and High-wage streams while increasing for other programs.
- Global Talent Stream – 9 business days (-1 day)
- Agricultural stream – 15 business days (-3 days)
- Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program – 12 business days (+1 day)
- Permanent residence stream – 25 business days (+8 days)
- In-home caregivers – 29 business days (+4 days)
- High-wage stream – 33 business days (-1 day)
- Low-wage stream – 36 business days

New Brunswick invited new candidates via Express Entry
The provincial Government of New Brunswick issued 93 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) via two Express Entry streams. Seven ITAs have been issued under the New Brunswick Employment Connection (EC) program, while 86 ITAs have been issued through the Express Entry Occupations In-Demand Connection (OIDC) program. In addition, the province granted 51 Post-Graduate Work Permits (PGWP) for international students who graduated from the province’s Designated Learning Institutions (DLI). Applying for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) through the NB Student Connection program is simple, as applicants do not need a job offer but must complete their studies within the last six months, live in New Brunswick, and actively look for work.

Alberta is expecting a massive rise in the AAIP over the next three years
Alberta is currently in dire need of workers to fill over 100,000 job vacancies and bolster its economy. To meet the labour shortage, the Prairie province has asked Ottawa to increase the number of immigrants it can accept through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). Danielle Smith, Premier of the province, declared that AAIP would experience a significant surge over the subsequent three years. By the end of 2025, there may be an estimated 67 percent increase in nominations. The AAIP has recently increased the immigration numbers to 9,750 nominations for 2023. Those figures are predicted to climb even higher, with 10,140 anticipated for 2024 and approximately 10,849 for 2025.

The influx of temporary foreign workers made Quebec strengthen workplace safety
Considering the significant increase in foreign employees in Quebec over the last two years, workplace safety regulations are being strengthened to protect these individuals. This summer, the Commission des Normes, de l’Équité, de la Santé et de la Sécurité du Travail (CNESST), Quebec’s workplace safety commission, is taking a giant step forward in checking up on working conditions for temporary foreign workers. The province will be doubling its squad of prevention and workplace safety officers to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and safely while they work. The provincial government expanded its existing team of 10 workplace prevention officers to 12.
