Ontario invited tech candidates under the Human Capital Priorities Stream

On March 10, 2023, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) conducted a new invitation draw under the Human Capital Priorities Stream. In the tech draw, the OINP issued 815 targeted Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to candidates with work experience in one of the in-demand tech occupations. Those candidates’ CRS Express Entry score was between 479-489 points. The OINP invited candidates under nine national occupational codes (NOC) in this draw. In 2023, Ontario issued 8,411 invitations under all streams of OINP, including 3,539 candidates under the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

Manitoba issued new invitations under the MPNP streams

On March 9, 2023, Manitoba held a new invitation round in the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In round #171, the MPNP held a new occupation-specific candidate selection (sales and service support occupations) under the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream and invited 224 applicants who scored 612 points and more. Manitoba also issued 277 LAAs in the regular SWM draw. The minimum score for the LAA in this category was 675 points, 18 points fewer than the previous draw. In the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, MPNP issued 43 LAAs to candidates invited under the Strategic Recruitment Initiative. The lowest score in the SWO category was 666 points, 55 points fewer than in the previous draw. In addition, 53 invitations were issued in the International Education Stream. Manitoba has issued LAAs to 597 candidates, including 45 Express Entry candidates for this round. In 2023, MPNP invited 2,180 candidates, and 277 of them received invitations in the Express Entry.

IRCC issued over 2,000 invitations in the new IEC draw

Over the last week, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From March 4 to March 10, Canada invited 2,222 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of March 10, there were 15,656 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were 2 ITAs for Andorra, 234 ITAs for Australia, 1 ITA for Austria, 21 ITAs for Belgium, 11 ITAs for Costa Rica, 3 ITAs for Croatia, 33 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 12 ITAs for Denmark, 7 ITAs for Estonia, 280 ITAs for France, 184 ITAs for Germany, 16 ITAs for Greece, 9 ITAs for Hong Kong, 278 ITAs for Ireland, 84 ITAs for Italy, 199 ITAs for Japan, 195 ITAs for Korea, 24 ITAs for Lithuania, 61 ITAs for the Netherlands, 74 ITAs for New Zealand, 10 ITAs for Norway, 30 ITAs for Poland, 31 ITAs for Portugal, 18 ITAs for Slovakia, 1 ITA for Slovenia, 83 for Spain, 13 ITAs for Sweden, 13 ITAs for Switzerland, 8 ITAs for Taiwan, and 287 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In 2023, Canada issued 61,712 ITAs under the IEC Program.

Many Canadians believe the high immigration levels will impact Canada’s economy positively

A Nanos Research Group study commissioned by Bloomberg found that most Canadians remain confident in the positive economic benefits of continued immigration. An overwhelming majority of 1,012 survey participants had a positive outlook on Canada’s increased annual immigration target – 52% stated that it would positively affect the Canadian economy. In comparison, 38% responded with the opposite opinion, 6% were unsure, and 4% were convinced that immigration levels did not affect the economy. The survey was conducted online and over the phone from February 26 to March 1, 2023.
