Roxham Road asylum seekers cannot find accommodation in Niagara Falls

Since June 2022, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has transferred more than 2,840 asylum seekers to Niagara Falls. These individuals were shuttled from Quebec and spread across 1,400 different hotel rooms in the city. Thousands of asylum seekers placed in a tourist town that lacks the necessary resources for their integration result in an unprecedented migration crisis as the tourism season starts in the city. Niagara Falls hotels cannot support the newcomers and want them removed to accommodate summer tourists.

Canada should build 50% more homes to keep up with immigration

Desjardins’ recent report reveals that Canada must increase its housing construction by a staggering 50 percent to accommodate the influx of new immigrants. Canada is expected to commence construction of roughly 210,000 housing units this year, according to Desjardins Securities. However, the same report indicates that there will be a demand for an additional 100,000 residential projects in preparation for the nation’s highest-ever intake of immigrants over the next two years. With a critical housing deficiency in Canada, economists and real estate professionals forecast that the issue will only become more alarming. Considering the federal government’s plan to welcome 1.45 million new permanent residents over the next three years, it is essential that housing starts becoming a priority.

March marks Fraud Prevention Month in Canada

The Government of Canada is devoted to creating awareness and encouraging citizens to take proactive steps toward recognizing, avoiding, and reporting potential fraud cases. To maintain a safe and secure immigration process, IRCC has provided clear directions to prevent the possibility of any fraudulent activity. According to the guidelines, new immigrants should know they do not need an immigration representative to accept their application. Applicants who receive help from an immigration consultant should ensure they work with licensed Citizenship Consultants. The Government of Canada also warned that IRCC employees never contact applicants or ask for payment to avoid arrest or deportation.
