Canada invited nearly 5,000 candidates under the International Experience Canada

Over the last week, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From January 28 to February 3, Canada invited 4,986 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of February 3, there were 23,151 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were 297 ITAs for Australia, 14 ITAs for Austria, 62 ITAs for Belgium, 19 ITAs for Costa Rica, 12 ITAs for Croatia, 60 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 19 ITAs for Denmark, 10 ITAs for Estonia, 1,662 ITAs for France, 26 ITAs for Greece, 17 ITAs for Hong Kong, 457 ITAs for Ireland, 123 ITAs for Italy, 314 ITAs for Japan, 617 ITAs for Korea, 3 ITAs for Latvia, 38 ITAs for Lithuania, 2 ITAs for Luxembourg, 66 ITAs for the Netherlands, 105 ITAs for New Zealand, 2 ITAs for Norway, 36 ITAs for Poland, 26 ITAs for Portugal, 1 ITA for San Marino, 3 ITAs for Slovakia, 3 ITAs for Slovenia, 119 for Spain, 11 ITAs for Sweden, 15 ITAs for Switzerland, 345 ITAs for Taiwan, and 502 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In 2023, Canada issued 31,998 ITAs under the IEC Program.

Canada has accepted more than 150,000 Ukrainian nationals since the Russian invasion of Ukraine

On February 3, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated the number of Ukrainian newcomers arriving in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET). According to the latest update, between January 1, 2022, and January 29, 2023, 22,010 Ukrainians arrived in Canada by land, and an additional 131,800 reached by air. Between March 17, 2022, and January 31, 2023, IRCC received 821,357 applications under the CUAET. In total, IRCC approved 526,796 applications from Ukrainian nationals.

Ottawa published special measures for Hurricane Fiona in Atlantic Canada

On February 3, 2023, the Government of Canada published operational instructions for applications from clients directly affected by Hurricane Fiona in Atlantic Canada. Starting on September 24, 2022, and ending on March 24, 2023, these special measures will be applied with priority processing for permanent residence applications and fee waivers for those applying for citizenship. Individuals must present proof of residency to verify their address to qualify for the special incentives. Government officials will prioritize applications under these initiatives so clients can obtain the necessary documents to identify themselves and access government services without delay.

The Canadian Government has already welcomed 27,870 Afghan nationals under the special immigration measures

On February 3, 2023, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows Canada has accepted 200 Afghan refugees since January 27, 2023. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 27,870 Afghan refugees. Canada received 17,155 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. Most of them – 9,515 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, while 15,415 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 1,075 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.
