Quebec excludes non-francophones from entrepreneur and self-employed immigration pathways

Starting December 28, Quebec has declared that applications for the Quebec Entrepreneur Program (QEP) and the Quebec Self-Employed Program (QSP) will no longer be accepted by those who are not proficient in French. The new amendments affected QEP candidates who receive assistance from a business accelerator, an incubator, or a university entrepreneurship centre and those who would like to open and manage a business in the province. These programs will remain open; however, applications from non-francophones will not be accepted as Quebec takes action to ensure the French language and culture are protected among its citizens.

Immigration helps employers combat the labour shortage issue in PEI

The recent Canadian census data reveals that Prince Edward Island is experiencing a steady influx of immigrants and temporary residents, helping employers deal with increasing labour shortages. According to Statistics Canada, PEI experienced an unprecedented influx of settlers in the most recent five-year period, with more than three times as many people settling on the Island compared to earlier figures. A staggering 4,860 immigrants have relocated to the province in the last five years – an impressive figure that is more than three times greater settling in the province in 2015.

Canada has had the highest quarterly population growth rate since 1957

According to Statistics Canada, the country experienced its fastest population growth rate in the past 65 years, with a nearly one percent increase due to immigrants during the third quarter of this year. As of October 1, 2022, Canada’s population had skyrocketed to a staggering 39,292,355 people – an increase of 362,453 individuals since July 1. This was the most noteworthy quarterly growth rate in 63 years since 1957 when it rose by a mind-boggling 1.2 percent! Canada’s population recently surged past 39 million for the first time, predominantly due to international migration, contributing a remarkable 94% of this growth and providing an additional 340,666 people.

Tensions rise in Toronto’s Persian diaspora as the uprisings continue in Iran

As protests persist in Iran, the Iranian diaspora is feeling immense pressure between loyalists of the current government and those who demand change. In Toronto specifically, anti-regime activists have decided to expose a certain group of individuals publicly – supporters of the regime who they claim are enjoying freedom away from their homeland without any repercussions in Canada. The International Center for Human Rights recently posted a photo of the previous police chief in Tehran and an officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) using a treadmill at a gym in Richmond Hill, Ontario. On October 29, 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered a highly anticipated address in which he promised to uphold sanctions against the Iranian regime and its leaders.
