Canada welcomed more Afghan refugees
On November 29, 2022, the Government of Canada made a new update regarding the Afghan refugees arriving in the country. The last update shows that Canada has accepted 180 Afghan refugees since November 21, 2022. As of now, Canada has welcomed a total of 25,400 Afghan refugees. Canada received 16,655 Afghans and their families’ applications under the Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who had assisted the Government of Canada in Afghanistan. Around half of them – 9,045 Afghans arrived in Canada under that program, while 14,860 Afghan nationals came under the Humanitarian program. In addition, Canada admitted 670 applicants under the pathway for extended family members of former interpreters.

Manitoba held Ukraine draw #8
On November 22, 2022, the Government of Manitoba held the eighth draw for Ukrainian candidates. In this draw, the province invited 11 candidates through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). To be eligible, applicants must be Ukrainian citizens, have a minimum of CLB 4 in each language band, have connections to the province (close relative, family-like, community, previous employment or studies in Manitoba), and score at least 60 points, and possess a valid language test in one of the official languages. In total, the province invited 165 Ukrainian nationals. In 2022, MPNP issued invitations to 5,771 applicants, including 1,220 Express Entry candidates.

Ottawa introduced amendments to the AIP after the NOC 2021 change
On November 29, 2022, the Government of Canada published changes to the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) after the implementation of the NOC 2021. For the education criteria, those with a job offer under Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) 0 or 1 must possess at least a Canadian 1-year post-secondary credential. Those with a job offer under TEER 2, 3, or 4 must possess at least a Canadian high school diploma. For TEER 0, 1, 2, and 3 of the NOC, applicants must meet the minimum criteria for level 5 of the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) system in English or French. Those applying for TEER 4 must provide CLB 4 in one of the official languages. For TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3, employers must provide a job that will last at least 1 year. For TEER 4 job offers, applicants must be offered permanent employment with no set end date.

New Brunswick published an update for the Express Entry Stream
On November 29, 2022, the Government of New Brunswick published a new update for the Express Entry Stream of the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP). According to the update, the Express Entry Stream is currently paused for Employment Connections and Student Connections. Opportunities New Brunswick (ONB) strives to efficiently process applications for the NBPNP, always keeping the goal of successful applicants in mind. Several factors are considered when determining sequences, such as application volumes, quality of individual applications, labour market information and economic forecasting.
