Ontario issued one invitation under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream
On August 30, 2022, the Government of Ontario held a new draw in the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream (EJO FW) Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). In this draw, the province issued one targeted invitation to apply (ITAs) to candidates who may qualify for the federal Economic Mobility Pathways Project (EMPP). The invitee had his/her profile created in the OINP EOI system between August 30, 2021, to August 30, 2022. The minimum score for this draw has not been indicated. In total, OINP issued invitations to 13,053 candidates in 2022, including 1,530 EJO FW applicants.

Canada clarified instructions on the authorization to work without a permit
On August 30, 2022, the Government of Canada announced new instructions on different situations around the authorization to work without a permit while a foreign national is in Canada. According to the new update, a foreign national may work in Canada without a work permit if they work under the Global Skills Strategy public policy for short-term work, or 120-day work for researchers, or if their activity is described in paragraphs 186(a) to 186(x) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR).

OINP issued 781 invitations through the Masters Graduate and PhD Graduate streams
On August 30, 2022, Ontario Immigration Nominee Program (OINP) issued 680 invitations to apply (ITAs) for the Masters Graduate stream. The minimum score of this round was 37 points, one point fewer than it was in the previous draw. On August 30, 2022, Ontario also invited 101 candidates under the PhD Graduate Stream. The minimum score for this draw was 26, 2 points fewer than in the previous program-specific draw. In 2022, the province invited 2,146 candidates under these two streams. In total, Ontario invited 13,053 candidates under all streams in 2022.

Immigration Minister provided an update on working to improve services at IRCC
On August 29, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser updated Canadians and newcomers on the government’s current status in addressing the backlog and improving the immigration system. The Minister said that the Government of Canada plans to hire 1,250 new employees by the end of the fall and provide citizenship and some permanent residence applicants with application status trackers to have timely information on their files in the coming year, which will be expanded to more clients. IRCC is also working on making Canada’s system more efficient and easier to use in the long term.
