Ottawa introduced a program delivery update for family class applications

On June 23, 2022, the Government of Canada published a new program delivery update for family class applications. The new guidelines will assist immigration officers in assessing multiple applications, foreign sources of income, counting family size, family class applications with separated spouses, income requirements for sponsoring parents and grandparents, minimum income requirements for the 2020 and 2021 taxation years and co-signers. In addition, the instructions have been modified to assist officers in recognizing and processing sponsors who were formerly from Quebec but now live outside of the province.

Express Entry’s all-program draws will resume on July 6

On June 21, 2022, while participating at Collision in Toronto, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that the Government of Canada will resume all-program Express Entry draws on Wednesday, July 6. When the all-program draws resumes, IRCC stated it would restore the Express Entry service standard to six months. As the Government decided to resume the Express entry draws, one may assume that IRCC has solved the issue with the long application processing times. Canada paused Express Entry invitations to apply (ITA) for permanent residency applications (FSWP and FSTP) in December 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The same happened to CEC draws in September 2021 due to an increased processing backlog.

Canada invested $3 million into a business incubator’s network to assist international entrepreneurs

The Canadian Government invested $3 million into an Ontario business incubator’s network to assist foreign entrepreneurs to start new businesses in the province and obtain Canadian permanent residency. Last year, Canada accepted 375 international entrepreneurs via the Start-Up Visa program. During the first four months of this year, 185 foreign entrepreneurs immigrated to Canada as new permanent residents through the program, putting it on track to welcome 555 more by the end of the year. The goal of the program is to bring innovative entrepreneurs in touch with Canadian private sector businesses, such as angel investor groups, venture capital funds, or business incubators, and help them launch their companies in Canada.
