Canada updated the instructions for the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership

On June 14, 2022, the Government of Canada updated instructions for the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The Government added links to the Business visitors [R186(a)] instructions as well as to the CPTPP and specified the countries. In addition, the new instructions include guidance on investors, intra-corporate transferees and professionals and technicians, and documentary evidence required for investors and intra-corporate transferees (T51) under the CPTPP. The Government also removed the intra-corporate transferee category “management trainee on professional development,” as this part of the CPTPP has not yet come into force.

Canada ends vaccine requirements for domestic and international travel

On June 20, 2022, the Government of Canada will cease to enforce vaccination requirements for domestic and international travel, federally regulated transportation sectors, and federal government staff. According to government officials, the decision to suspend vaccine requirements in the country was based on improved public health conditions. COVID-19 vaccination rates are nearly 90%, and case counts have dropped significantly. The requirements for passengers and crew of cruise vessels will continue. On planes and trains, public health precautions, such as wearing a mask, will continue to be in force.

British Columbia invited up to 162 Skilled Immigration and Tech candidates in the new BCPNP draws

On June 14, 2022, the Government of British Columbia issued new invitations under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and invited qualified Skills Immigration candidates. The province invited 138 candidates under the general draw. The minimal score for candidates invited in these draws was between 76-123 points. In addition, the province invited 12 candidates under the childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 4214). In the Healthcare-targeted draw, BC invited 5candidates. Additionally, less than 5 invitations have been issued to other priority occupations (NOCs 3114 and 3213). In total, the province invited up to 162 candidates. In 2022, in total, British Columbia has invited 4,128 candidates.

Canadian universities are among the top 50 best institutions in the world

The latest ranking by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a provider of analytics and insight to the worldwide higher education sector, includes three Canadian institutions among the top 50 in the world. According to the organization’s annual QS Top Universities ranking, McGill University, the University of Toronto, and the University of British Columbia made it into the top 50 best colleges in the world. Another eleven Canadian institutions appeared in the top 25% of more than 1,400 universities ranked by Quacquarelli Symonds in its list, further demonstrating the strength of Canada’s university education system.
