Alberta invited 350 candidates and updated the AAIP inventory

On March 15, 2022, Alberta published the update of the inventory of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). There were around 500 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 850 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. In addition, on March 8, 2022, Alberta held a new round in the Alberta Express Entry Stream and issued 350 Notifications of Interest (NOI). The lowest score in this round was 318 points, 22 points fewer than it was in the previous draw. In 2022, Alberta has already invited 1,350 candidates.

British Columbia issued more than 170 Skilled Immigration invitations in the BCPNP draws

On March 14, 2022, British Columbia issued new invitations in the Skilled Worker – International Graduate categories of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). In the Tech-targeted draw, BC issued 123 invitations. In the Childcare-targeted draw for early childhood educators (NOC 4214), the province invited 27 candidates. In the Healthcare-targeted draw for entry-level and semi-skilled workers, BC invited 21 candidates. The lowest score of those candidates was 85 points. In addition, the province issued less than 5 invitations for healthcare assistants (NOC 3413) in the entry-level and semi-skilled category, with a minimum score of 63 points. In total, British Columbia has already invited 1862 candidates under the BCPNP in 2022.

Newfoundland and Labrador issued a Ministerial Statement to support Ukraine

On March 15, 2022, the Ministry of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills of Newfoundland and Labrador issued a Ministerial Statement to show the province’s support to Ukraine. Gerry Byrne, Minister of Immigration of the province, condemned the illegal and unjustified war imposed by Russia and recognized the humanitarian crisis evolving both inside and outside of Ukraine. He stated that the province has created a Ukrainian Family Support Desk within the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism and is ready to show leadership to welcome Ukrainians.

IRCC continues to process PGP applications accepted last year

According to the Government of Canada’s 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan, family reunification and the sponsorship of parents and grandparents for permanent residence will be one of the top priorities for the Government. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) still does not know when it will start accepting new applications under the 2022 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). This year, the new Immigration Levels Plan shows that Ottawa plans to issue 25,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to applicants through the PGP.
