New Brunswick introduced a guide for Transport Truck Drivers (NOC 7511)
On March 1, 2022, New Brunswick published a new guide for Transport Truck Drivers (NOC 7511). The new immigration pathway for truckers has been established within the New Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream of the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP). This economic immigration program allows employers of the province to hire truckers working under the NOC 7511 from inside and outside Canada. All applicants have to meet the minimum eligibility requirements for age, language, job offer, work experience education, etc.

Yukon launched the Ukrainian Family Support Desk
On March 7, 2022, Yukon launched the Ukrainian Family Support Desk to provide help for Yukoners who have families and relatives in Ukraine. The Desk will provide support for Ukrainian Yukoners to find pathways and resources to bring their families to the province. The Department of Economic Development staff who possess extensive knowledge of immigration and temporary resident pathways will provide information on federal programs to assist with immigration and family reunification, connect employers that want to offer employment to Ukrainians arriving in the province and guide Ukrainians looking for employment opportunities in the territory.

Prince Edward Island accepts candidates to fill in-demand jobs
On March 1, 2022, Prince Edward Island’s Office of Immigration has launched a new stream to fill in-demand jobs and tackle the labour shortages in the province. The new Occupations in Demand stream accepts applicants under four NOCs: NOC 3413 Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates; NOC 7511 Transport truck drivers; NOC 7611 Construction trades helpers and labourers; and NOC 6731 Light duty cleaners. All candidates must have a full-time, non-seasonal permanent job offer from a PEI employer, one year of work experience directly related to the job, at least a secondary school diploma, a valid language test result, and sufficient financial resources. Applicants also must be 18 to 59 years old and demonstrate a genuine intention to settle in the province.

Canada accepts three times more non‐college-educated immigrants than the US
Despite many Americans thinking that the US must have its immigration system merit-based as in Canada and not accept “illiterate” or “non-skilled” immigrants, Canada admits about three times more non-college-educated immigrant workers per capita than the United States. According to Statistics Canada’s reports, from 2015 to 2019, Canada admitted 244,800 non‐college-educated immigrants over the age of 25 (0.65 percent of the Canadian population), while the US accepted 729,797 immigrants with the same characteristics during the same period (0.22 percent of the US population). However, Canada has also admitted about five times more immigrant workers with bachelor’s degrees and four times more workers with advanced degrees than the US, admitting four times more immigrants per capita its labour force than its neighbour.
