IRCC invited candidates under the International Experience Canada
Over the last week, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held new draws in the pools of International Experience Canada (IEC). From January 31 to February 6, Canada invited 7,598 young foreigners to apply for an IEC open work permit. As of February 4, there are 35,192 candidates registered in the pool, waiting for the invitation. In this round, there were 1 ITA for Andorra, 225 ITAs for Australia, 170 ITAs for Belgium, 158 ITAs for Chile, 22 ITAs for Costa Rica, 19 ITAs for Croatia, 277 ITAs for the Czech Republic, 61 ITAs for Denmark, 70 ITAs for Estonia, 922 ITAs for France, 761 ITAs for Germany, 50 ITAs for Greece, 11 ITAs for Hong Kong, 1,207 ITAs for Ireland, 308 ITAs for Italy, 753 ITAs for Japan, 509 ITAs for South Korea, 10 ITAs for Latvia, 51 ITAs for Lithuania, 3 ITAs for Luxembourg, 118 ITAs for the Netherlands, 92 ITAs for New Zealand, 6 ITAs for Norway, 90 ITAs for Poland, 122 ITAs for Portugal, 12 ITAs for Slovenia, 276 ITAs for Spain, 31 ITAs for Sweden, 11 ITAs for Switzerland, 201 ITAs for Taiwan, and 1,051 ITAs for the United Kingdom. In 2022, Canada issued 22,393 ITAs under the IEC Program.

BCPNP invited 8 candidates under the Entrepreneur Stream
On February 2, 2022, British Columbia held a new draw for business candidates in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). In the Base Category of the Entrepreneur Stream, BC PNP invited 8 candidates. The lowest score of this round was 122 points, 4 points more compared to the previous draw. The maximum possible points in the Entrepreneur Stream grid are 200. 120 points candidates can get for self-declared factors such as Experience & Ownership, Net Worth, Investment, etc. Another 80 points are given for the business concept. Last year, the province invited 70 entrepreneurs under the BCPNP.

Ottawa introduced new measures to support Afghan nationals in Canada
On February 4, 2022, the Government of Canada approved the “Temporary Public Policy for Afghan Nationals in Canada”. Now, Afghan refugees with valid temporary resident status in Canada are exempted to pay the fees associated with their work or study permit applications, as well as the biometrics fees. A remission order is required for the application fees of those who applied between August 4, 2021, and December 23, 2021. In addition, the application fees of eligible Afghan nationals have also been waived between August 4, 2021, and December 31, 2022.

The Oath of Citizenship has been updated
On February 4, 2022, the Government of Canada introduced the new updated version of the Oath of Citizenship, which now, includes Indigenous content. As a result of this update, the Government also provided links to the new videos and added a new link to special themed speaking points for presiding officials to use in their speeches. The citizenship judges are responsible for carrying out the requirements of the Citizenship Act and Citizenship Regulations with respect to administering the Oath of Citizenship in both English and French and presenting citizenship certificates at in-person citizenship ceremonies.

Canada faces a drop in employment in January 2022
On February 2, 2022, Statistics Canada published a new Labour Force Survey for the week of January 9 to 15. According to the report, in January 2022, employment fell by 200,000 (-1.0%) and the unemployment rate increased to 6.5% due to the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. The decline in employment was mostly visible in Ontario and Quebec, hitting mainly the accommodation and food services industries of the private sector. In this fifth wave of the pandemic, youth aged 15 to 24 were most affected by employment losses as it was in the previous waves.
