Ontario introduced changes to the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills Stream

On February 1, 2022, Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development introduced a regulatory amendment impacting the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills (OINP EJO IDS) stream. The change under the Ontario Regulation 31/22 (General) is effective February 1, 2022, and require employers seeking approval of a NOC 7511 (Transport truck drivers) employment position under the EJO IDS stream to demonstrate that they have a valid Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) certificate and a Carrier Safety Rating (CSR) of Excellent, Satisfactory or Satisfactory Unaudited.

Alberta invited 350 candidates and updated the AINP inventory

On February 1, 2022, Alberta published the update of the inventory of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). There were around 350 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 775 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. In addition, on January 18, 2022, Alberta held a new round in the Alberta Express Entry Stream and issued 350 Notifications of Interest (NOI). The lowest score in this round was 346 points, 19 points more than it was in the previous draw. Last year, AINP invited 6,608 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Alberta Express Entry. In 2022, Alberta has already invited 600 candidates.

British Columbia invited 126 candidates under the new the BCPNP Tech draw

On February 1, 2022, British Columbia held a new draw in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Tech Program (BC PNP Tech). In this draw, the province invited 126 candidates in four categories: Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker, Skills Immigration – International Graduate, Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker, and Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate. The lowest score in all categories was traditionally 80 points, the same as it was in the previous draw. In 2022, in total, British Columbia invited 840 candidates, including 319 applicants under the BCPNP Tech.

Quebec invited new candidates in the second Arrima draw

On February 1, 2022, the Quebec Ministry of Immigration (MIFI) published the results of the 28th invitation round in Quebec’s online system Arrima. On January 27, 2022, MIFI invited 322 candidates to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program. Candidates invited in this round either had a valid job offer outside the territory of the Montreal Metropolitan Community and had a minimum score of 647. In 2022, MIFI already issued 834 invitations. Since the launch of Arrima in July 2019, the government of Quebec invited 7,106 foreign nationals in 28 draws to apply for immigration to Quebec.

Newfoundland and Labrador increased the minimum wage in the province

On February 1, 2022, Newfoundland and Labrador announced an increase in the minimum wage rate in the province. Effective April 1, 2022, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will increase the minimum wage to $13.20 per hour. According to Bernard Davis, Minister Responsible for Labour, the “government continues to monitor and review labour standards legislation to ensure it remains relevant, responsive and comparable to jurisdictions across the country.” The most recent increase to the minimum wage in the Atlantic province was on October 1, 2021, increasing it from $12.50 to $12.75 per hour.
