IRCC held the first PNP-targeted Express Entry draw in 2022
On January 5, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 392 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the new PNP-targeted draw. In round #213, the cut-off score was 808 points, 88 points more compared to the previous PNP draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was March 4, 2021 at 13:53:48 UTC. As of January 4, 2022, there are 193,148 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 1,383 more compared to the previous update. Last year, Canada issued a record-high 114,431 ITAs through Express Entry.

Ottawa updated definitions related to temporary resident permits
On January 5, 2022, the Government of Canada introduced a program delivery update related to temporary resident permits (TRP). The term “implied status” has been replaced with “maintained status” on TRP web pages. In addition, the Government provided new instructions clarifying the restoration process of temporary resident status. Authorization to study or work can only be restored if an application is made before the expiration of that status, and the applicant remains in Canada until a decision is made on the application.

Saskatchewan published Application Processing Times for SINP for the fourth quarter of 2021
On January 5, 2022, Saskatchewan updated the processing time of various streams of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). According to the new data, in the fourth quarter of 2021, in the International Skilled Worker category, the processing time in the Employment Offer stream was 2 weeks, in the Occupation In-Demand stream – 37 weeks, and in the Express Entry stream – 38 weeks. In the Saskatchewan Experience category, the processing time in the Existing Work Permit stream, International Students stream, Truck Drivers stream and Hospitality Workers stream was 1 week, and in the Health Professionals stream, the processing time was not provided. In the Entrepreneur and Farm category, the processing time for the Entrepreneur Nominations and Farmers streams was 8 weeks. For the Entrepreneurs Applications, the province has not provided any information regarding the processing times. The Job Approval Process, the authorization for an employer to hire a foreign worker through the SINP, took 8 weeks. The processing times show the average time, that it takes for 80% of applications to be processed. These processing times are an average based on the past quarter. They may not tell the precise processing times for future applications.

British Columbia invited 102 candidates through the BCPNP Tech
On January 4, 2022, British Columbia held a new draw in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Tech Program (BC PNP Tech). In this draw, the province invited 102 candidates in four categories: Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker, Skills Immigration – International Graduate, Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker, and Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate. The lowest score in all categories was 80 points, the same as it was in the previous draw. In 2021, BC issued 11,400 ITAs to apply for a provincial nomination under all programs, including 1,905 candidates in the BCPNP.

Newfoundland and Labrador arranges Information Sessions on the Atlantic Immigration Program for employers and prospective newcomers
On January 5, 2022, Newfoundland and Labrador’s Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) announced that the province will hold a series of information sessions starting from January 11, 2022. In total, four information sessions for employers will be conducted – two during the daytime hours and two during the evening hours. The sessions are only for Newfoundland and Labrador-based employers and prospective newcomers to the province. Due to the limited spaces available, those who are not considering Newfoundland and Labrador as the province of destination in Canada, have been asked not to register for the sessions.
