Canada welcomed around 11,500 newcomers under the TR to PR Pathway in 2021
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data revealed that 11,425 temporary residents in Canada acquired their permanent residency under the temporary resident to permanent resident (TR2PR) pathway by the end of October 2021, excluding many more who are still waiting for their applications to be processed. Pathway, launched on May 2, 2021, had received 84,177 applications under six streams, both for francophones and anglophones. Ontario and British Columbia accepted the most newcomers under this one-time pathway to permanent residency.

Ottawa updated the cost threshold for excessive demand on health and social services
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) considers if an applicant might reasonably be expected to cause excessive demand on health or social services in Canada, as a part of the immigration application review. On January 4, 2022, the Government of Canada updated the average Canadian per capita health and social services. The annual cost threshold figure for excessive demand on health and social services has increased from $7,266 to $8,019, and 3 times that average has been updated from $21,798 to $24,057.

Alberta invited 150 candidates and updated the AINP inventory
On January 4, 2022, Alberta published the update of the inventory of the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). Currently, there are around 600 Alberta Opportunity Stream applications and 875 Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Express Entry pool. In addition, on December 14, 2021, Alberta held a new round in the Alberta Express Entry Stream and issued 150 Notifications of Interest (NOI). The lowest score in this round was 351 points, 1 point more than it was in the previous draw. In 2021, AINP already invited 6,608 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the Alberta Express Entry.

Prince Edward Island published the schedule for invitations rounds in 2022
On January 4, 2022, the Office of Immigration of Prince Edward Island has published a schedule for invitation rounds via the Expression of Interest system for individuals to apply for the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEIPNP). The invitation rounds are scheduled for the following dates:
