Saskatchewan invited 99 international graduates under the SINP

On December 28, 2021, Saskatchewan updated the number of spots remaining through the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) for international graduates in the framework of the temporary immigration policy. The provincial government has allocated 1,000 spots for direct submission of a nomination application for those who resided in the province on September 1, 2020, and has completed an academic program in the province. The province has accepted 99 applications, and 196 spots remain available. The Temporary Measures for this subcategory will expire on December 31, 2021. At the same time, if the employer submitted the Job Approval Form for this position before December 31, 2021, student applications will be accepted beyond December 31, 2021. Since the launch of the program, SINP has accepted 804 applications from international graduates.

Many Express Entry candidates immigrate through tech occupations

From 2016 to 2020 Express Entry candidates in certain tech occupations have received the highest number of invitations to apply (ITA). The following three occupations in the tech sector were the most popular ones among the applicants: software engineers and designers (NOC 2173); information systems analysts and consultants (NOC 2171); and computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174). There was significant variation in terms of gender balance since the majority of ITAs were issued to men. Out of 6,665 invitations issued, male software engineers and designers received 5,000 ITAs.

Ontario is the most popular destination for immigrants

According to the Express Entry Year-End Report 2020, which was published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on December 13, 2021, many immigrants admitted to Canada through the Express Entry system settle in Ontario. Approximately 60 percent of all immigrants admitted through Express Entry in 2020 settled in Ontario. Many newcomers start their lives in the Greater Toronto Area, as well as the capital city of Ottawa. British Columbia and Alberta were respectively the second and third popular destinations for immigrants.

IRCC implemented Special processing measures for persons suffered from floods in BC

On December 24, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released the new program delivery instructions regarding temporary special measures aimed at helping Canadian permanent and temporary residents who were directly affected by the emergency situation resulting from the 2021 floods in British Columbia. For instance, visitors, international students, and foreign workers will be exempt from paying fees for extension or restoration of temporary resident (TR) status and exemptions from the requirement to seek restoration of TR status within 90 days. As for permanent residents and citizens, they are exempt from paying fees for the replacement of the lost, damaged or inaccessible documents issued by IRCC.
