The Government updated the wording of a French term for International Mobility Program
On December 14, 2021, the Government of Canada updated the wording of the French term ‘statut maintenu’ to the correct term ‘statut conservé’ for the International Mobility Program (IMP). Previously known as ‘statut maintenu’ (implied status) grants an extension for foreign nationals, allowing them to maintain their temporary resident status under the subsection R183(5). According to the new update, this status has now been changed to the term ‘statut conservé’ (maintained status). However, this extension does not automatically authorize foreign nationals to work while their application for a renewal of their work permit is in progress.

British Columbia invited new candidates through the BCPNP Tech
On December 14, 2021, British Columbia held a new draw in the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Tech Program (BC PNP Tech). In this draw, the province invited 71 candidates in four categories: Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker, Skills Immigration – International Graduate, Express Entry British Columbia – Skilled Worker, and Express Entry British Columbia – International Graduate. The lowest score in all categories was 80 points, 2 points more than it was in the previous draw. In 2021, British Columbia invited 1,905 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in the BCPNP Tech. In total, BCPNP issued 11,400 ITAs to date.

One year passed since the last Federal Skilled Worker draw
In December 2021, it has been a year since the last Federal Skilled Worker (FSWP) draw. According to the inventory snapshot dated July 25, 2021, there were 140 remaining applications under the FSWP. However, there were 34,902 FSWP applications in the inventory, among which for 8,985 applications IRCC just started the processing; 4,816 applications with the selection process in progress; 19,903 applications waiting for admissibility; and 1,031 applications pending the final decision.
