IRCC held the PNP-targeted Express Entry draw #211

On December 10, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 1,032 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the new PNP-targeted draw. In round #211, the cut-off score was 698 points, 39 points fewer compared to the previous PNP draw. The tie-breaking rule for this round was September 10, 2021, at 13:53:48 UTC. As of December 6, 2021, there are 190,937 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, 835 more compared to the previous update. In total, in 2021, Canada issued 113,685 ITAs through Express Entry.

Immigration Minister marked International Human Rights Day

On December 10, 2021, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Sean Fraser issued a statement on International Human Rights Day, celebrating the importance of human rights and calling on all Canadians to strive for equality and against discrimination. He announced his pride for Canada’s long history of providing refuge to people whose rights are threatened, ‘from the Vietnamese boat people in the 1970’s to the more recent Operation Syrian Refugees.’ He also mentioned this year’s significance as in 2021, the Government launched a unique Human Rights Defenders immigration stream to protect and promote human rights.

Canada updated border measures and requirements

On December 10, 2021, the Government of Canada updated border measures and requirements in response to the COVID-19 Omicron variant. As of now, all fully vaccinated individuals who have been in any country other than Canada and the United States in the 14 days before their entry to Canada may be selected for testing upon arrival. Those who have positive test results will have to quarantine in a suitable place until they receive a negative test result. They will be allowed to take public transportation to their place of quarantine. The Government will also increase the number of travellers selected for testing to 100% in the coming weeks.

Alberta eased requirements for International Graduate Entrepreneur and Start-up Visa Streams

The Government of Alberta has eased the requirements for the Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream and the International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream. As of December 7, 2021, language requirements have been decreased to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 from a minimum of CLB 7 for English or French for Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream. In addition, candidates who graduated in the last 10 years are eligible to apply under this stream. Previously, individuals who graduated only in the last 2 years could apply for this program. For the International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, the Government eliminated the requirement for 6 months of mandatory work experience. Moreover, international graduates are eligible to apply for permanent residency (PR) if they just have a valid Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) at the time of submitting their Expression of Interest.
