Ottawa updated biometrics collection procedures

On November 3, 2021, the Government of Canada introduced a program delivery update on partial biometrics collection and the 1 in 10 policy in the temporary residence stream. If before in cases where applicants were not applicable for the 1 in 10 policy, the validity date of their biometrics was set to the final decision date of the application, now, the validity date for these applicants will be set to the expiry date of the permit or visa counterfoil if the application is “Approved”. In cases where an application is “Refused” or “Withdrawn”, the validity date will be set to the “Application Closed Date”.

CEC immigration category has stagnated

In October 2021, the number of invitations fell sharply due to the suspension of the Express Entry CEC category. In October, Express Entry conducted only two rounds of draws, and a total of 1,569 EE candidates in the provincial nomination category were invited. Compared to the 3,917 invitations issued in September, this is a drop of 60%. Only candidates in the provincial nomination category are invited, which means that experienced immigrant applicants (mainly international students) have lost the opportunity to be invited this month.

The number of deaths of Indian international students is increasing

In Canada, the number of deaths of international students, especially those from India, has increased. In the last two weeks, the Lotus Funeral & Cremation Centre has sent bodies of five international students to India, most of whom were from Punjab. These students came to get an education and settle here. Issues such as affordable housing and mental health support for these students are quite complicated and students cannot get full support. Moreover, drug traffickers and criminals also target these students, and leave them with no choice, but to commit suicide.
