IRCC introduced the first Settlement Outcomes Highlights Report

On July 14, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced a report entitled Settlement Outcomes Highlights Report. It is a high-level analysis and summary of the immigrant experience in Canada that examines the successes and challenges of newcomers from 2015 to 2019. According to the report, new Canadians are very pleased with the settlement services offered to them and see these services as crucial in setting newcomers up for success in Canada. These services not only settle them but also help them improve their English or French, assist in finding work and connect with their communities. IRCC’s Settlement Program is delivered by 572 local service provider organizations across Canada (outside of Quebec). The Program assisted more than 1 million newcomers from April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2019.

Quebec launched a new scoring system for Arrima

On July 14, 2021, the Ministere de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Integration (MIFI) launched a new step in the expression of interest system to facilitate better alignment between immigration and the needs of the Quebec labour market. Now, eligible candidates will face a prior classification, according to their specific profile and background, which will optimize the use of the Arrima expression of interest bank. Quebec invites and selects foreign nationals with a high potential for integration with the help of Arrima under the Regular Skilled Worker Program.

Canada experiences an increase in job vacancies

As Canada’s economy recovers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare and construction jobs are booming which provides new opportunities both for new immigrants and those who want to immigrate here. According to the report of Statistics Canada, ‘there were 553,500 job vacancies in the first quarter of 2021, up by 40,700, or 7.9 percent, from the same quarter one year earlier and by 47,300, or 9.4 percent, compared with two years earlier.” The most in-demand jobs were in the healthcare and social assistance sector. The other large portion of the increase in vacancies was in the construction sector in all Canadian provinces.
